“If you obsess over whether you are making the right decision, you are basically assuming that the universe will reward you for one thing and punish you for another.
The universe has no fixed agenda. Once you make any decision, it works around that decision. There is no right or wrong, only a series of possibilities that shift with each thought, feeling, and action that you experience.”
-Deepak Chopra
Your life is the sum total of the decisions you have made. Attaching a meaning to the decisions is all about attitude. It could be either right or wrong depending on the perspective. But making the right decisions is not only about the choice, it’s also about the timing. If you want to become a cricketer you need to decide early on in life and undergo the required training. You cannot delay your decision and wait for the time when you are 30. Similarly, if you feel a job is not aligning with your purpose, it is necessary to quit early rather than dragging it along and wasting your precious time. Taking the right decision at the right time is a mark of a true genius.
Alexander the Great’s long-term success against a variety of opponents has been attributed to his ability to adapt, innovate, and most principally, make decisions under pressure. His ability to make the right calls at the right time allowed Alexander the Great to become one of the best-known rulers and military leaders in history, despite his early death at age 32.
Sometimes good enough is perfect.
Often people spend so much time perfecting their product or idea that they miss the timing. The timings for any decision needs to be perfect no matter how great the idea. It is like writing a book. It will never be perfect. Every time you will find something that could be added or deleted. But if you hold on to your idea for too long waiting to perfect it in every aspect you may miss the peak when the idea should have been released.
Set your long-term vision.
Take your time defining your long term goals and your purpose. Once you know what you want from life and what your goals are it becomes easier to make decisions within proper time. If you know you want to be a singer, you invest yourself in training right from childhood and whatever you do, your decisions are all aligned with the sole vision and that is for you to become a successful singer.
Evaluate the best and worst that can happen, and then don’t look back.
Whenever you are in a fix whether you should take a particular decision or not start by thinking what’s the worst that could happen. Also take a deep look at what your ultimate desired outcome is. Once you have both aspects, make a decision knowing the worst outcome and the best. This often helps the Geniuses to not be attached with the results and put in their 100% in anything they do.
Follow your intuitions Many times we are so swamped with options and bombarded with knowledge from everywhere that we fail to notice the flags that our inner voices raise. Pay attention to your intuition . More often than not our conscience is aware of subtle signs that affect our decision that may not be recognized by us. Take a step back and feel your inner energies. Listen to what your gut is telling you and believe in it’s signs.
Decisions define the path you carve out for yourself. Making the right decision at the perfect time defines your future. Pay attention to what your soul is trying to tell you and charge ahead with the decision that aligns with your purpose.
“On an important decision one rarely has 100% of the information needed for a good decision no matter how much one spends or how long one waits. And, if one waits too long, he has a different problem and has to start all over. This is the terrible dilemma of the hesitant decision maker.”
