He came from very humble background and his parents shifted to India after the partition from sind province.and he even talks how he was at the hands of bad friends in childhood. He was only 19 years when he shifted to Dubai to be helping hand for his brother business.
🍁 This book is narrated in his own words. The hard work, the struggle, the pain, success, loss, everything he experienced is narrated in detail. He also shared about premature death of his only daughter, murder of his eldest brother, the depression, suffering, how he dealt with them and still continues to deal with it.
🍁 Being a ardent devotee of sai baba, he shares his philosophy for living a good life is helping the people. His purpose of life is to serve the people.

The Regal Man is biography of Vasu Shroff, Chairman of the Regal Group of Companies. Starting from a single shop, he built an empire which is today a household name in UAE. Honestly, I had not even heard about Vasu Shroff but after reading the book it feels like he’s an old acquaintance of mine. And I must declare that his story is one of the most iconic and inspiring I’ve come across till date. He felt in bad company in childhood, moved to a new place and rose to academic excellence (it was one of the 2 turning points of his life). In his 20s he moved to Dubai (it was the second turning point). Both he and Dubai was not the same as we see today. He was nobody and Dubai was a land without running water, electricity or many roads, both of them evolved with time.
But his journey was no cakewalk. He experienced a lot of challenges, setbacks, failures. He had to face heartbreaking & soul shattering losses. His daughter died few weeks ago after her marriage. He felt like he died right away with his daughter. Vasu went into a decade long depression. But he fought it, defeated it for his family. He became ‘Dada’. He was told that people are misusing his generosity but he didn’t care, all he wanted to do was the art of giving and he did in wholeheartedly.
I’ve read some biographies before but this one is something different. It’s divided into two parts. The first one tells us the story of Vasu Shroff and the second one is a conversation with him in which he speaks a lot of words of wisdom. I just loved the way the book is written. Thanks to the author for writing in FPP so that we could go on Vasu’s journey through his own eyes. Every chapter is followed by Wisdom in Hindsight where the ‘gist’ quotes/thoughts of chapter are shared. Plus every chapter ending also gives us homework exercise to do so it feels like book is written for us too. Reading it was such a unique and brilliant experience.

The book shows the journey of Vashu Shroff, from his childhood when he had to leave his hometown because of partition to his mischievous teenage years to a mature and hardworking adult. His compassion towards service of people and his undying faith in God. The book also shows the failures of his throughout his journey and how taking risks has been a big part of his life.
But this story isn’t only about up’s in life because life isn’t always cherry and what you make in those tough times and how you come out of it, who helps you in those tough times determine your life and how well and morally you have lived it. I liked how the story talks about family and making good relationship with people. The book also contains chapters on do’s and don’ts and how to not lose the sight of what’s important in trying to become successful.
I really enjoy first person POV in biographies as it gives a look into the mindset of that person at that particular time of the event. I have previously read a few books of the author and I am always impressed by her writing style. How cleverly she has been able engaged the readers into the book and make them feel a part of the book with those questionnaire at the end of each chapter. Those questionnaire were really well written and it really make reader not only read the book but understand it’s purpose and meaning and learn from it.
